I looked at some websites to try and get a feel for what women's laptop bags look like and what they are selling currently. coolcomputerbags.com has a wide selection of women's bags. they offer the bags in sizes 7" to 17+".
Trends:
Purse feel- many of the bags have longer straps with extra pockets on the front and resemble purses, they could even double as a purse and lap top carrier. although these seem to offer little protection for the computer, just a way to carry it around.
Futuristic shapes- a lot of the cases came in shapes similar to the standard lap top sleeve but they have sleeves that have ruffled edges and not straight rectangular shapes.
Monograming- this website offers a free monogram on your laptop case or bag.
Colors and design- lots of red, orange, pink. some bags are quilted and embellished with sparkles or pearls. some bags are leather, simulating crocodile prints. i saw a lot of animal prints as well. the bags that come in black and brown often have a floral stitching and/or print in bright colors such as pink or blue
overall i think women are looking for a more stylish alternative to a plain bag, they often look for colors and patterns that would match their purses and wardrobes, and bags that could double for a purse/computer bag.
